Plug and Play FAQ

Since April 17, 2025, plug-and-play devices have been permitted in Flanders, provided they are approved by Synergrid, the sector organization for grid operators. The information below is only valid for Flanders; contact your grid operator for other countries or regions.

  • The most important thing to consider when purchasing plug panels or batteries is that the device is homologated via Synergrid .
  • The P1 port of your digital meter may be used as an information source for smart controls, but according to Belgian law, it cannot perform a security function.
  • Make sure your device bears the CE mark, which indicates that your device has been evaluated and complies with European standards for safety, health, and environmental protection.
  • If in doubt, consult an installer to check whether the circuit of the socket you are plugging the system into can handle the load and whether it is safe to use your appliance.
  • Consult your Owners' Association (VME, for apartment buildings), city, or municipality to see if any additional regulations apply. In some cases, they may impose restrictions on the use of plug-and-play devices.

Which plug-and-play devices are allowed and where can I find that information?

The devices must have a CE label and be approved by Synergrid. You can find approved plug-and-play devices in this list on the Synergrid website. This specific plug-and-play list is updated weekly. The most current status can always be found in the general list with all inverters, including fixed installations. You can find plug-and-play devices in this list by searching for 'Plug & Play' in column 14, 'Additional information'.

Do I need to register plug-and-play devices?

It depends:

  • Do you want to receive a feed-in tariff for solar energy that you feed into the grid with your plug-and-play device? And you don't have a permanent solar panel installation yet? Then you need the plug-and-play device. to register at Fluvius. Otherwise, you won't receive a refund.
  • Don't have one yet? digital meter ? Then you must return the device within 30 days to register at Fluvius. Fluvius will then install a digital meter within 90 days.
  • If you have plug-and-play devices with a combined total inverter power of 800W or more, you must return the devices within 30 days. to register .
  • Are these plug-and-play appliances with a combined total inverter power of less than 800W? And do you already have a digital meter? Then you must do not register . But in that case you will receive no refund For solar energy you feed into the grid. Unless you already have fixed solar panels and have a feed-in contract through them. If you still want to receive a feed-in tariff, you must register your plug-and-play devices.

How do I register my plug-and-play devices?

You register the devices via My Fluvius . The registration procedure depends on the type of device (solar panel, battery/storage system).

Why do plug-and-play devices need to be approved by Synergrid?

Approval is carried out by Synergrid, the sector organization for grid operators. This approval is necessary to guarantee that the devices interact correctly and safely with the distribution network, including during power outages.

Where does the electricity produced by plug-and-play devices go?

Do your plug-and-play appliances produce electricity? Then it is injected into your internal electrical system. If the appliance's production exceeds your internal consumption, then the surplus is injected into the Fluvius distribution network. Do you have a Do you have a digital meter ? And do you have a feed-in contract with a supplier? Then you will receive compensation for the electricity you inject. To get a feed-in contract, you must register the plug-and-play device.

I don't have a digital meter yet. Will a plug-and-play device be a problem?

No, but you do need to register the plug-and-play devices with Fluvius. If you have registered your plug-and-play devices, Fluvius will send you a confirmation within 90 days. digital meter to install.

I have a digital meter. Do I need to do anything else if I have a plug-and-play device?

  • Do you want to receive a feed-in tariff for solar energy you feed into the grid with your plug-and-play device? And don't have a permanent solar panel installation yet? Then you must install the plug-and-play device within 30 days. to register at Fluvius. Otherwise, you won't receive a refund.
  • If it concerns plug-and-play devices with a combined total power of 800W or more, you must return the devices within 30 days. to register .
  • Are the devices plug-and-play with a combined total power of less than 800W? Then you must do not log in but then you get no refund For solar energy you feed into the grid. Unless you already have fixed solar panels and have already entered into a feed-in contract through this channel. If you still want to receive a feed-in tariff, you must register your plug-and-play devices.

Do I need to have my plug-and-play devices inspected?

No. According to the AREI (General Regulations on Electrical Installations), the appliances are considered a product. They are therefore not part of the (fixed) electrical installation. Therefore, you do not need to have them inspected. For further questions about this, please contact the FPS Economy.

Do I need an installer for my plug-and-play solar panel?

No. Is your plug-and-play device homologated? Then you can use it yourself. You can check whether your device is homologated via this link. list . This specific plug and play list is updated weekly. The most current status can always be found in the general list with all inverters, including fixed installations. You can find plug-and-play devices in this list by searching for 'Plug & Play' in column 14, 'Additional Information'. If you have any doubts about the connection or the safe integration with your internal system, it's best to consult an installer.

Do I need an installer for my plug-and-play battery?

Do you have a plug-and-play battery and a solar panel installation? And are you injecting electricity into the distribution grid? Then the two combined may not inject more than your solar panel installation can inject into the distribution grid. To guarantee this, regulations require you to provide a measurement at the access point. This is the so-called 'EnFluRi sensor'. You must install it near the main meter in the fuse box. You can consult an installer for this. The EnFluRi sensor communicates with the battery. The battery must also have an automatic power control system. In the list With approved devices, a combination of a battery and an EnFluRi sensor is always included for plug-and-play batteries. Both are approved together by Synergrid. This specific plug-and-play list is updated weekly. The most current status can always be found in the general list with all inverters, including fixed installations. You can find plug-and-play devices in this list by searching for 'Plug & Play' in column 14, 'Additional information'.

Can I use the P1 port with plug-and-play devices?

For security reasons, you must not use the P1 port for any security function of the plug and play device, such as limiting the injection . You can use the P1 port of your digital meter can be used for the smart control of plug-and-play devices.
